Welcome to Near Northwest Neighborhood Network! We are proud to announce our 20th Anniversary of providing services to our community. To learn how we serve the community, please take the time to navigate our web site.
Our Mission:
NNNN's mission is to develop the will and the vision to stabilize and to revitalize the community so that the community provides quality to both family life and work. NNNN is a nation building organization, in that NNNN intentionally brings the community's diversity together to the same table, especially low and moderate income people, thereby reconfiguring the relationships in the community for the common good. This brings people into a community decision-making process who do not often get to participate.
One of NNNN's goals is to promote leadership development of Humboldt Park residents. NNNN seeks to increase the number of Humboldt Park residents that can articulate issues affecting them and give them the skills so that they can address those issues in a collective and democratic process. NNNN encourages practice of leadership skills through facilitation, presentations and meetings with decision-makers. NNNN staff provides formal leadership development through training sessions and use of consultants and promotes the inclusion of low-income residents and minorities so that the people around the table reflect the people we serve.
Our History:
For the last 20 years, the Near Northwest Neighborhood Network (NNNN) has been organizing around the issues of affordable housing, church, employment, economic development, health, education, safety and youth services. NNNN began as a loose network of organizations that was brought together by Neighborhood Housing Services. Residents who were concerned about increasing crime in Bucktown and the need to improve our local schools eventually formalized the organization in 1986.
Over the years, NNNN became instrumental in planning and organizing the community beyond the issue of housing and focused its efforts on developing the community, utilizing a holistic approach to stabilizing and empowering the residents by making them owners of the issues and solutions addressed. Today, NNNN has become a powerhouse in addressing the needs of the West Town and Humboldt Park communities through resident participation.
More than 140 institutions and organized groups are involved in NNNN’s organizing partnerships, which represent more than 25,000 people.
Our Target Community:
NNNN works in West Town, Humboldt Park, and parts of Logan Square. The loose boundaries are Fullerton Ave./North, Kinzie Ave./South, Kennedy Expressway/East and Cicero/West.
